Omotenashi Mask explores how to aid cross-cultural communication through technological interventions such as accent transfer and facial reenactment. Rather than aiming for perfect communication between two languages, an ideal for which many excellent algorithms continue to be developed, these prototypes capture and translate the more complex and subtle non-verbal cues that are expressed in face-to face communication.

Yosuke is a designer at Takram London. His primary interests are centred around emerging technologies. His projects probe the future vision that they promise, reveal the cultural and political mechanism behind it, and democratise the insights and findings through designing prototypes, aiming to facilitate a better understanding of the implication of emerging technologies and encourage discussions about the future directions that we could take.
